It has been almost a year from the marketing of Fonera Simpl and the source code (GPL) has not yet been released.

I think we (users) can ask with a loud voice the release of it... It is unthinkable to sell a product using code under GPL without observing its terms!

Can you give us, please, a definite date for its release, or do we necessarily have recourse to denounce this GPL violation to get it?

PS: I hope this message will not be eliminated and I hope you understand that I'm just asking ONLY a right (thus far ignored from you).

Thanks

The Fonera SIMPL should have the ability to create local users sometime this week and ready to support public SSID bandwidth control by March 2011.

Unfortunately it isn't the unique problem...
Another problem is that you can not have the WebGUI access from the WAN.

Here you can find a list of things that don't work (or features that aren't present in the fw): http://forum.fon.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=695

ETA...hmmm soon guys, they just need some more testing....hahahahaha!!! NOT
I REALLY NEED AN UPDATE FOR FONER SIMPL RIGHT NOW, I AM SHARING my F U L L bandwidth with people that are connecting on it, this was a bug from the start and now 2 months have passed and what...right, you need some more testing...sorry to disturb you.
Tomorrow i am going to burn my router in a fireplace (the only way to benifit from is sadly to get some heat out of it), i'll give you the receipt for cleaning the fireplace and for poluting the air. Then i'll go to the store and i'm going to buy a proper router.

arrivederci

hi,

1) any news on the next fw? Is there a release date (in a week, a month or a years) and what are the features introduced?

2) when it will release the source code? It’s been a lot of months since the marketing of the fonera Simpl… (Is it under GPL, right?)

PLEASE, can anyone answer our questions?

thanks

The reason that the SIMPL doesn't have the same community base is because they switched the fonera chipset to Ralink, so it's much more difficult to get things like packet injection working properly with the aircrack suite, as well as the hostap stuff. No-one's really tested it, and since it was just cracked a couple months ago, it's easier and more desirable to buy the old versions still floating around.

I hope you guys revise that chipset and decide to go back to Atheros in future revisions!

The best thing I can think of is to keep it on MIPS & openwrt, bump up the processor/memory and put back in the atheros chipset, then I KNOW you guys will be huge again (especially as fon/fon+'s from 3rd party vendors are dwindling!)

Keep up the great work guys!

I would not think bad... but this post seems to have been written to appease the souls of those requesting a new firmware (with bridge mode and repeater mode) or of those requesting the source code (which is under GPL) that has not been released yet.
