Hi Betatesters! 2.2.5.0 rc1 is here
Yes, we are faster and faster! This is just a release candidate launch, we want you to test all the bugs you reported and let us know if they’ve been fixed. But John, almighty John, has been busy with new stuff too!
(sorry, no pic this time, it’s not a release, hehe ;))
BIG DISCLAIMER: even thought the configuration wizard tells you to use a password of more than 8 characters, IGNORE IT. It has a bug so use a password of 7 chars MAX!
This is the bugfix and new feature list. Test and report, my friends:
- Added flickr functionality: works as the youtube one. Put pictures on the pendrive on a “flickr” folder and they’re uploaded when plugged!
- Added picasa functionality: exactly the same way but on a “picasa” folder.
- Nintendo DS now works fine with this firmware!!! (more than one will be happy in Japan…).
- Freed space for more plugins! We now have 1,5MB instead of 1,19MB :)
- Samba and FONBackup have a separated firewall option.
- Fixed IE visualization of the Wizard (yes, IE users, now it works… dunno why we fixed it though, lol).
- Fixed Torrent crashing problem with files that have many seeds.
- Torrent downloader now lets you chose the port and will be automatically opened on the firewall.
- The partitions on multi-partition disks can be now labeled as well.
- And more I can’t remember right now :)
And this is the missing bits:
- Translations for all new stuff are not ready yet.
- And more I can’t remember right now :) LOL
The images (only developer mode):
- Web upgrade image (only from 2.2.3.0 and on): 20090330_FON2202_2.2.5.0_rc1.tar.gz
- Command line image (any version): 20090330_FON2202_2.2.5.0_rc1.image

do you really believe, that this crappy software will help spread fon ? FON really is at its endnow . Believing that this is just the beginningwould be a late 1st april joke. hyping one new software version after the other every 2 weeks is really a ridiculous behaviour. FON sucks. FOn doesnt grow any longer. FOn will have the same fate as whisher.com. Disappearing.
So guys look for another advantage. This varsavsky is really a joke, a player and a playboy. You cant him take 4 serious. really. believe me.!

actually the users are really happy with the firmware, you are the fist troll i had the chance to meet.
still, fell free to use other routers, it will save us time, as we wont have to read your weirdo comments :)
enjoy and have a nice day

Beta testers?? You are joking I think. Someone remember the Fon Beta Tester group? I think no. You wrote beta testers but they don’t get Fonera 2. So how I can test that firmware and hardware? Off course you can wrote that is version for people who have some knowledge about linux, ssh and other. Yes I have that knowledge. That was my propose to add rapidshare downloader to fonera. I also said that I wrote that plugin but nobody was interested. Now what I see?? A rapidshare module in Fonera. I have also few ideas about plugins but I think I don’t say anything about that.

Please provide the link to the blog/forum/mailinglist post where you published your rapidshare plugin
also, i am on irc all day, where all the developemnt happens and never heard of a rapidshare plugin.
if you wanna keep your ideas secret (like you seem to have done with rapidshare) then feel free to do so. but dont come crying afterwards.

I never said that I wrote that plugin. I only say that I can do that but nobody was then interested in that :) Ok. No problem. That my ideas:
* rsync backup from other Linux machine. Off course we can use ssh to do that, but it will be better to have graphic interface.
* Monitoring system. It will ping defined host every some delay. When host don’t work it send to use e-mail.

This new router firmware really looks amazing - very exciting.
Will there eventually be a version of this firmware for WRT routers like the Linksys WRT54GS? I have one and am debating buying a Fonera 2.0 (hardware)… but I need to have 4 Ethernet ports not 1 + modem, and I don’t want a pile of parts lying around my place to get it done.
It would also be great if a Fonera 2.0 hardware model had multiple USB ports - 4 fully powered ports and 4 ethernet ports would be a very convenient device, on top of the way the private/public network already makes life easier.
