Fonera2.0 firmware BETA2 is coming!!
Hello all!
Here it comes, it’s the Beta2 firmware for the fonera2.0. Yes, yes, it’s a beta, I know… the neverending story again… but no, this time it’s a realistic roadmap. We promised to have this beta for today and it’s ready, only that we want to do some more testing till monday, plus we want to be in the office to get your feedback.
So, whats new in the beta2?
- Improved stability
- New web interface: new design (much cooler :P) and new usage concept (forget about the “router management page” look… this is something cool
- New web technology: Based on LuCI that will make it easier to add custom pages for plugins or edit the existing ones.
- Improved event detection system. The fonera will automatically detect and display the connection of new known device types to the fonera
- 3G support! Finally, it’s here! We couldn’t test it with many devices, but they will be added with your help. For now, we know it works with Huawei H200 and some Sierra modems.
- Lots and lots of rework in the background… You will just feel it, no need to explain ;)
Is this not enough? OK, then wait and see the next firmware: Fonera2.0 Stable Release. It will rock!
Now, we will get the development environment up. Expect to see it running in a few days, we’ve been testing different alternatives but unfortunatelly none of the new convinced us so trac+svn will be the final option.
Ok, here you have a small goody to forecast what’s coming up on monday…

Can’t wait to see the new firmware. Hopefully we can now make nice plugins so everybody can use the new addons easily. The old firmware was not bad at all.

Dear all,
I just tried out to make the 3G feature work with my Fonera. The Fonera does not recognize the E220 Huawei although I am using a 2.0 USB powered hub. Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong ? Best, Dan

I think it would be a good idea a fonera with DLNA support as a way to offer contents to the other gadgets of your house. So, you could transfer in a easily way the contents of the HD or pendrive connected to the fonera to, for example, your TV or other gatget. This also, will offer the possibity to manage the fonera (listen music, donwloads, streamming video) using for example a mobile with Android and de new DLNA management interfaces that have been developed by the community. With this DLNA management interface you could get the control of the fonera, and also, the control of all the (DLNA) gadgets of your house…so you could streamming video or audio from your fonera to the movil, the TV, the HIFI equipment, etc., and moreover manage how you want to connect all your gagdets (i.e:photos from your camera or mobil to the TV or digital portraits, music from the computer to the stereo equipment, films from the extern HD, Blue-ray or digital tv decoder to one or other TV of your house, ….) just using a simple mobil.
