Hi all,

This time we’ve done things very fast! huh?

We got a lot possitive feedback and some bugs that we considered worth fixing soon. So here you go. We released RC5 for your delight.

Enjoy it! Here’s the Changelog:

  • DHCP issues fixed: some users had no DNS on DHCP mode.
  • WAN access control on the firewall is fixed.
  • FONSpot always enabled by default.
  • Transmission is now accessible from WAN.
  • Samba on Windows accepts all filesizes and allows you to create folders properly (thanks for the hint deco!)

Additionally we updated the webcam plugin: now it allows WAN access!!! ;)

How do you think about “Disable private signal”?? If fonera placing cafe and any public space that does not need private signal, it is only need FONSpot. I think do not need disable FONSpot, need disable private signal.

  4. SkyNETbbs Says:

It was so fast, someone forgot to +1 the RC number inside the image to nr #5 as well :-)

I’m sure it’s the correct one… the most annoying bug is gone :-)

  5. Thomas Maas Says:

    Great.

Any chance that the samba - mac osx related bug for usb hard-discs will be fixed one of these days? There must be lots of mac users out there that want to use the fonera with time machine…

  6. Piero Says:

    Hello,
I’ve upgraded the Fonera 2.0 firmware, with dev version.
Thanks for your great work, but I have a question regarding Transmission client. It works good, mounts directories in my USB disk, and SEEMS to be up and runnig but…. when I click to “Transimssion WebUI”, the browser don’t reach the page, giving me error.
The port 9091 seems to be closed, and also telnetting myip:9091 I don’t have answer.
Can you please help me to make Transimssion working?
    thanks in advance
    Piero

  7. Inouk Says:

Thomas Maas: Actually i thought it was, I will reply to your ticket.

Piero: For support please join the mailing list or IRC chan. I think you are connected from WAN, if so you need to open transmission access from WAN in the firewall menu.

  8. Piero Says:

    Thanks Inouk,
you are right… soon I will joyning the mailing list but, to answer to you, I’m not connected from WAN. I’m in LAN connected on the Fonera, that give me Internet Access, and I’ve opened all port in applications’s firewall menu.
    I really don’t understand why Transmission don’t works…
    Btw thanks again, bye :-)

  9. Thomas Maas Says:

@Inouk: Thanks. Actually the ticket isn’t mine, but it describes the problem i’m having: mac osx says the drive has 14.3 Mb available while it’s quite a bit bigger, and it doesn’t let me write on it. Since rc4 the drive does automount in finder.

  10. Janne Schoultz Says:

Thanks for the updates. I am still desparately waiting for a support for Huawei E180 3G stick. I had to get a E160E, which has been tested in Sinland with Sonera, Elisa, and Saunalahti operators, later one even being a prepaud 3G - and it works fine. Jus the E180, which is superior in uploading also, F2 does nit recognize at all. I red in the compatibility chart that Huawei E180was tested in Spain with Telefonica, but I cannot understand how that is possible since the device is not even recognized.

Thanks again for a grand effort from absolutelu everybody involved!

    Hi all!

Anyone had tested the webcam plugin….? It don’t works in WAN mode…

    any ideas about this?

  12. skynetbbs Says:

    tested….
it works directly from the WAN interface
but won’t work from the “internet”…
I guess they will fix it…
    it’s reported…they acknowledged & discussed about it

  13. Supermat Says:

Hey my webcam is a Trust, it works by lan with the 1.5 plugin but with 1.6 don’t works, what is the name of your webcam who works on 1.6 plug in

    thank’s MAt

  14. marc Says:

    @Piero
I got the same problem in RC4, after changing the HD. I’ll explain myself:
first I installed and tested transmission in a external USB disk of 20GB. As I found it was working ok, I removed this disk and plugged a bigger one. Then I’ve installed transmission in the new disk, started it but I was unable to connect via the 9091 port. I could see the directories mounted via ssh when starting the torrent, but still no access. The only solution i found then was reinstalling the firmware of the fonera and then reinstall the torrent in the usb disk.
    Hope this helps…

  15. Robbie Says:

    Hi all,
I’m happy to report that Samba works perfectly on Mac OS X now. I don’t know why it doesn’t work for Thomas (I had to restart the fon twice, before it worked, maybe that helps.)

    Groetjes…

  16. David Says:

I think the same!! And i think this thing is very very important!

How do you think about “Disable private signal”?? If fonera placing cafe and any public space that does not need private signal, it is only need FONSpot. I think do not need disable FONSpot, need disable private signal.

  17. Thomas Maas Says:

    @Inouk & @Robbie

I stand corrected, samba does work on mac OSX since RC5 indeed.

My issue was related to changing the password for the wifi connection. This somehow causes mac OSX to no longer connect to the share.

  18. Nuno Dias Says:

Eveything is working fine except my webcam :(
    I’ve just connected a Microsoft NX-6000.
The fonera dashboard, even if it detects the webcam, keeps showing me the “cambozola” copyright message.

Oddly using ‘motion’ it captures images to JPG just fine.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks

  19. Jack Says:

All Rapidshare files are waiting. How can i push them to download?

  20. torrentman Says:

The best release up to date! Stable transmission, settings saved and restored, web upgrade works finally on my router too.
Just one bug: transmission ui does not work from internet. Authorization screen showed up, but then timeout.

  21. Nuno Dias Says:

torrentman: My access to transmission from the internet works just fine with firefox.

  22. torrentman Says:

Dias: it’s working now. thanx. rebooted f2 and tried with firefox wo proxy. i guess it’s not supported any type of proxy, but did not have much time to test extensively

  23. torrentman Says:

seeding 25 torrents at 50kbytes/s. transmission is great!

  24. Anders Says:

What about entering into the 2100 century and implement IPv6 in the router.
As in IPv6 you do not need NAT, as you get real IP numbers, it is much easier to open the firewall to connect to servers in your local network (like IP-telefony, Bittorrent, Webcam access etc).
As NAT is not about security, firewalls are. Using IPv6 will be as secure as now with IPv4, as you prob still want to run IPv4 through NAT.
You only need a /64 net on each router, running radvd on your local net and setting up the firewall with ip6tables.

MS Windows XP and newer, Apple OSX and all Linux distributions have support for IPv6 right now. You only need to set up the router.

And it would prob. be the largest roll out of IPv6 to customers in the world. And that would generate a lot of PR fuzz on the net. ;)

So, get IPv6 into all your routers!

  25. Deca Says:

    Is port forwarding working?
Actually i’m trying to forward the port 80 to 8080 to see from remote the web interface but i can’t get to work.

  26. mATHIEU Says:

I’m testing a new TRUST webcam, that should be compatible (according to the fon2 wiki).

But I can only see the Cambozola message inside the java window.
This happens both via LAN and WAN.

    Any ideas ?

  27. ddluk Says:

Fo me Samba on Mac Os still doens’t work :(

  28. Claudio Says:

Why can’t I use my usb flash stick for Transmission?

  29. David Says:

Samba on OSX not working yet. Any hints? Any troubleshooting guide? Planning to use Time Machine.

  30. Claudio Says:

Transmission does not seed torrent when the download is completed!

  31. David Says:

For me Samba on OSX does not work either. Any hints?? :-(

  32. luff Says:

Samba stopped working for me (windows) after installing RC5.

  33. Riwid Says:

Samba on Mac osx was working for me on this release. But stopped working at some point. Says it can’t connect. I have restarted and reconnected several times but no luck.

    Anyone having same problem?

  34. Inouk Says:

Claudio: When using transmission, USB storage is used as SWAP, pen-drives are just too slow in that case.

ddluk, david: check http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/External_Storage_Use and http://wiki.fon.com/wiki/Time_machine

Claudio: really? it used to seed, let us check on that!

Riwid: maybe after snow leopard update? http://boards.fon.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=5930&p=40906#p40906 we will check that as well

  35. iurgi Says:

    Riwid,

I think it’s because the upgrade does not keep the samba password, unfortunatelly it is deleted. Just go to the interface and set your current password AGAIN (or set a new one) and it should work.
    thanks!
    iurgi

  36. David Says:

    @Inouk
Regarding TimeMachine: I did follow the instruction, but the fonera is supossed to create a file “start Time Machine, and see how it creates a file on your external-hd called something like: ComputerName_0011a234b5c6.tmp.sparsebundle”

    and that never happens.

I do see the HD from TimeMachine and journaling is disabled, but that file is never created… any hints?
    thx

  37. David Says:

Now, after rebooting fonera and macs, cannot see the shares anymore, so one step back. Changing password won’t fix Finder saying “Connection failed. There was an error connecting to the server” - I am very sorry to say this product is making me fail frustrated and definetly does not look like ready to market… :-(

  38. landoo Says:

    iurgi:

When will the final 2.2.6.0 firmware come?

  39. David Says:

Accessing the downloading files from the web interface (on a Mac) is extremely slow (10-15Kb/s). Even from a Mac mini hooked through USB to the fonera is not very practical (less than 20Kb/s). I have to wait 7minutes for a downloaded pdf. Imagine a movie!

The fonera is only downloading one torrent, so I doubt it is a device performance issue.

But you guys keep saying we could stream music/video to our computers…. how? Am I doing s’thing wrong?

  40. Seth Says:

Curious if there are any plans to include usb_modeswitch in future releases. I’m trying to get a Masmovil branded Longcheer WM66 USB HSDPA modem working with my fonera 2.0, but first I need to get it out of mass storage mode.
